Maritime New Zealand will require, that short courses for issue of New Zealand marine engineer & deck officer CoC's, must be taken in New Zealand, Australia OR UK ; this covers, Advanced Fire-fighting, Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats, and Medical First Aid. For issue of Maritime New Zealand Tanker Endorsements, Tanker Familiarization & Advance Tanker Safety courses must be done from New Zealand. Ancillary courses from India are NOT acceptable !!! To apply for tanker familiarization courses, If you are studying at NMIT, Nelson - your course includes all three tanker familiarization courses and it is compulsory to attend these courses. If you are studying at MIT, Auckland - Withing 7 days of your arrival New Zealand, you will have to make a list of ALL students interested in Oil, Chemical & Gas Tanker Familiarization courses and email it to Inderneel Advani This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. MNZ Class 2 Tanker Endorsement (OPERATIONAL LEVEL) Maritime NZ Class 2 Tanker Endorsement is one of the requirements to sail on tankers as 4th/3rd Engineer. To apply for a Class 2 MNZ tanker endorsement a relevant tanker familiarization course must be completed from New Zealand. Please note that this is one of the requirements to apply for a Class 2 tanker endorsement in NZ. *** Some shipping companies require that the candidate (holding MEC 3 and planing to join as a 4th Engineer) completes the Advance Tanker Safety course from NZ. Please discuss these requirements with your employer before you start your studies in NZ MNZ Class 1 Tanker Endorsement (MANAGEMENT LEVEL) Maritime NZ Class 1 Tanker Endorsement is one of the requirements to sail on tankers as 2nd/Chief Engineer. To apply for Class 1 MNZ tanker endorsement a relevant advance tanker safety course must be completed from New Zealand. Students will need at least two changes of clothing per day this is because the PISC course content involves getting wet, out on the boat and jumping into a pool for life raft training and due to New Zealand cold winters we would like to offer a kind reminder to students that they require warm clothes not only for the water-based activity but for the winter months. Requirements for Advance Fire Fighting course To study the Advance Fire Fighting course in New Zealand, it is a requirement to complete a 5 day Advance Fire Fighting course from India. This is a requirement ONLY at MIT, Auckland and NOT at NMIT, Nelson. Due to New Zealand Health & Safety requirements whilst wearing breathing apparatus, all students must be clean shaven (i.e no beards allowed) for this course. Additionally, the wearing of headgear that will affect the fit of the breathing apparatus mask is not permitted. Students with a beard and-or head gear may choose to complete the Advance Fire Fighting course from Australia.
